The same result from a free dating site...

Firstly, thanks for taking the time to visit my website. I am a self confessed dating addict who has been around the circuit a few times. I have used a lot of the biggest and most popular commercial dating sites. And by used, I mean signed up as a full paying member for at least a year. These premium dating sites are great because they have such a huge database of members. I was under the false illusion that because these premium sites have so many members, I’d be sure to find someone. And I did but it didn’t last. I couldn’t help but think at the time whether I’d still have met someone if I’d have joined a free dating site and saved myself hundreds of dollars a year.

Looking back at that stage in my life, I ask myself a question now, “If these premium dating sites were so great at matching people, why do they still have so many members and why are they growing so big?.” You may respond by saying that new members are joining all the time. Ok fair enough, but according to trends, the internet dating market is already saturated. It achieved a peak growth in mid 2000’s. So how can premium dating sites possibly be getting more members than those they are matching? Where are these new members coming from? So I ask myself a few more questions, “Do these premium sites really want you to meet someone?” and “Are their databases up-to-date and have they removed members who are no longer actively looking?”.

A few months after I had cancelled my subscriptions on the paid dating sites, I joined a few free dating sites to see if I would have any luck without paying for it. Sure enough, I met more people through the free sites than I did through the paid sites. I can only put this down to the fact that people seemed to be more responsive on free dating sites and less selective about who they chatted to. Anyway, to cut a long story short, dating people from these free dating sites became a moderately regular occurrence until I met someone I wanted to have a long term relationship with. Any I didn’t pay anything online for the privilege.

The conclusion I draw from all this is that paid dating sites are an excellent money making business and the ones who lose out are the consumers who think they’re getting a good service and good value for money. You stand the same chance of meeting someone on a free dating site than you do a paid one. There is nothing to show otherwise. And based on my experiences, in my opinion, all these matchmaking tools and features that many paid dating sites have just don’t work.
